About Zeke

In March of 2004, Zeke Mumma was diagnosed with a severe brain injury due to symptoms from a severe and unusual case of bacterial pneumonia. At home with his parents, Zeke does a daily neurological developmental program taught and given to Laurie and Don by the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential (IAHP) in Philadelphia. Zeke along with his parents visit IAHP two times a year for a week so Zeke can be evaluated, given an updated program and for his parents to be educated. His parents bring this knowledge back to their Lititz home where they implement the programs to aide in Zeke’s development.

Zeke can now see detailed images with the help of glasses can crawl and walk on an adaptive crawling track and crawls down an inclined floor (slide) and moves on the carpet about 3-4 feet. When crawling, Zeke’s legs push well but now he’s starting to lift up his head. Zeke’s looser allowing him to reach for objects and open his hands to hold items and a very ticklish boy who laughs at the interaction of others and enjoys going places. Zeke has much to say and replies at the appropriate time but his parents haven’t figured out the words, yet. The use of a choice board allows Zeke to express himself. He continues to be fed through a g-tube but is able to eat orally 2-4 oz. each meal. He has started to sleep 8-9 hours through the night.

About Ride 4 Zeke

Ride 4 Zeke started in June of 2005 when a friend of the family, Jeanette Burman surprised Zeke’s parents with the fundraiser. Jeanette contacted local businesses for donations and had Blue Ridge cable come to interview the Mumma’s at their house. The fundraiser ended at Two Cousins Pizza in Brownstown, PA with food and pony rides. It was a true blessing as Zeke’s parents needed the funds to continue Zeke's therapies at the IAHP in Philadelphia.

In 2006, Ride 4 Zeke was cancelled but the picnic at the West Earl Community Park still took place where riders along with friends and family still got together for food and fun.

With the weather questionable in 2007, Ride 4 Zeke did happen with light rain for the riders. A record high 37 riders ventured through farm land to North East Maryland where they enjoyed the Chesapeake Bay before returning to the picnic. Fox 43 came out and interviewed several riders and did a nice segment on Ride 4 Zeke which can be on our media page.
